What is Soft-I/O®?

Soft-I/O connects sensors and actuators to a network in a way that is so revolutionary that it has reinvented the I/O marketplace. There is only one model of Soft-I/O, but you can load applications that can dramatically change the role that Soft-I/O takes to make your control system work.

Sensors and actuators are the backbone of every control system whether in factories, buildings or vehicles. Sensors bring information--such as temperature--into a control system. Actuators--such as pumps--provide the action of a control system. Together, sensors and actuators provide the input/output or I/O of every control system.

Before Soft-I/O, inflexible or custom I/O hardware needed to be purchased or designed to electrically connect to sensors and actuators. Soft-I/O provides patented configurability so that Soft-I/O conforms to the sensor and actuator. Any I/O connector pin of Soft-I/O can be an input, output or even power or ground. As a result, Soft-I/O dramatically reduces the cost, time and parts required to build a new control system. Machine builders and control system designers can reduce their costs and improve the performance of their systems with Soft-I/O.

 Welcome to Soft-I/O!

We look forward to sharing with you a story that has been a long time in the making. The story is about a product like no other in the world. The product is Soft-I/O. Our business is control systems, and our speciality is high-speed, complex machines that have many parts, some moving, some heating, mixing, anealing or maybe just holding down the floor. These machines are all run by computers, marvellously powerful processors that can act based upon what they compute based upon what they sense.

Soft-I/O Versus Other I/O Approaches

We did not invent input/output systems.  They have been around for more than 50 years.  We think that we have reinvented I/O and made it much better, but we were not the first to hook up sensors and actuators to computers.  Let's look at some of the other approaches.
